Failure Verses True Contentment

1 Timothy 6:10 “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

When God saves a lost and dying sinner, He gives that lost soul with a dead spirit life and great blessings. I believe it would do every believer well to remember their life before they were saved by God. To remember our destination after this life as a lost soul verses the destination of our life after salvation. I believe we live in the days of apostasy or the great falling away from service to God. God had a reason for saving every single soul, and that gift of salvation was so important to God that He sacrificed His own Beloved Son for it. Therefore, it would do all Christians well to ask ourselves, “why did God save me, and what was His purpose in my salvation”. God does everything for one single purpose, for to Him! We were saved to serve the Lord our God, to worship Him, and to bring glory to His Holy Name. The question is, are we serving God’s purpose in saving our unworthy souls? There is only one way to prove to ourselves that we are serving God’s purpose in our salvation, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Gal. 5:25. If we are saved, if our once dead spirits are now living, and if the blood of Jesus Christ has cleansed us from all iniquity, then we are obligated to live our life on this earth walking in the Spirit. That walking in the Holy Spirit is only accomplished by living and walking everyday in the scriptures. 1 John 1:7a “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another…” Fellowship with God is only by living and walking in the light of His word. Jesus said in Matt. 7:17 “Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.” If you are a good tree, are you producing good fruit for the glory of our Heavenly Father and Jesus our Saviour? Are you living and walking in the Holy Spirit?

There is one single word that will allow us to be purely satisfied in our spiritual life on this earth, and that word is “contentment” which means self-satisfaction. Why self-satisfaction, because until we are able to satisfy ourselves, we will never want to satisfy God, we will never walk in the light until we see satisfaction in that walk. The biggest reason so many fail in their Christian life, or fail to bring glory to God is because of selfishness. God said in 2 Cor. 9:8 “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:” Only God can supply all our needs in life to cause us to serve Him in righteous. And it is this supply of goodness that we then can abound in our good works. If you ask any believer that is properly “walking in the Spirit” are they satisfied in life, the answer will always be “yes”. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing…” Rom. 7:18a. What is the biggest cause of Christians failing to bring glory to God, it is without question the love of money. And God told us “which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith,”. Coveting in a failure to be satisfied with self, therefore, having a desire to drop everything to self-satisfy for our own glory. Christians who desire more than they have and not happy with God who has promised to supply all their needs. God told us in “…be content with such things as ye have…” Heb. 13b. If it is our desire to have more, that will cause us to “err from the faith.” and God warned us “Do not err, my beloved brethren.” James 1:16. A born again Christian will never truly be happy living in error from God and the Truth of His word. Christians that are attempting to satisfy themselves are living against God. God said in Luke 16:13 “No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” We, as God’s servants cannot serve God and ourselves, it cannot coexist because while we are serving self, we are in error with God. And God said “…for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.” Now, you will not hate God, but you will come to hate or detest the commands of God or His commands to walk in righteousness. You will in time “despise” the word of God and make excuses for your failed walk in life and in the same time falling farther and farther away from the Truth of God’s Word. What is normally the first sign that you are no longer walking in the Spirit, you slow and or stop going to church, or you never join a church. God warned us in Heb. 10:25a “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…” If we are not attending church regularly then we are forsaking the church, and before we realize it, we have entirely abandoned the Lord’s church. The body have lost a valuable part. The detesting comes in when Christians no longer value the church, therefore arises the erring in making excuses for our failure to attend church. Money, our love for the mighty dollar is the main excuse. Then we hear these words, “I have to make a living” but is that the true reason? Can we not trust God to supply all our needs? Do we truly need to drop out of church to make a living, or do we just covet more and are not content with God supplying our needs? The question is, are we content with God or do we need mammon more than God. Has our coveting caused us to withdraw from the Lord and the church and caused our walk in the Spirit ineffective? Folks, every Christian needs to think, “what is more important, God or self”. Are you not walking in the Spirit of God’s word, then it is time to repent and fix the problem. Judgment day is getting closer by the day, and it would be sad not to have any rewards or crown for the Lord. God bless you all.
