John 3:3 “Jesus
answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be
born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
I hear a lot of people who call themselves Christians criticize
the Baptist for believing in Eternal Security, or “once save always saved” if
you do not understand the meaning of eternal security then I have some
questions to ask these folks who teach that a saved person can be lost again.
(1) if a believer is “born again” then how is it that one can be “unborn”, (2)
what does it take for a born again soul to be lost again or how many sins does
it take, I want to ask all these folks “how many times have you been lost and
re-saved? See, God said if you fail the law in one jot or tittle then you are
guilty of all. “For whosoever shall keep
the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” James 2:10 See
the bible is full of laws, there are not only 10 but many, in fact, 1st
Thessalonians chapter 5 alone has about 22 commandments which are laws. If one
sin causes people to be lost, then will not one sin cause a saved soul to fall
from salvation. See, chances are that 99 out of a hundred who believe that you
cannot be eternally saved do not believe that they have ever had to be saved a
second time. In other words, they believe that their one salvation in life was enough.
Well, here is the facts of eternal security, or “once saved always saved” as
some call it. Jesus told Nicodemus he must be born again and notice that Jesus
compared this second birth to the first. “Jesus
answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of
the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” John 3:5 Being
born of water is the natural birth as described in verse 6 “That which is born of the flesh is flesh;
and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” The words “born again”
means – born from above or born anew – if you are born from above then it means
you have been born a second time, once naturally and the second time
spiritually. Since God compares the second birth to the first birth then you
cannot be “UNBORN” either naturally or spiritually. God has expressly said that
salvation has nothing to do with our works neither does it have anything to
with us on our part. It is clear, “For by
grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God…Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians
2:8 - 9 These people who do not believe in once saved always saved, but
that they have not ever needed to be saved again, they believe their one
salvation is enough. Odd isn’t it!!!
