Happy Father’s Day!

“Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)” (Ephesians 6:2)

A Father should always be honored by his children, always. The father is the anchor of the family because God has installed him as the “head of the house”. God said in Ephesians 5:23 “For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.” The Lord compared this authority and responsibility to Christ’s responsibility to the church. If Christ is not the head of your church, you do not have a church and if the father in the family is not the head of the family then the family is dysfunctional. Now, I know that some families do not have fathers, and some fathers fail in their responsibility to their family, but this does not change what Christ Jesus has said. The responsibility is on the father’s shoulders and he should not take it lightly, Christ never took His responsibility to the churches lightly. God has given every father a great and glorious opportunity to serve Him as the head of your house and to fail in it is to fail the Lord’s command. God has setup the family, and every family is not the same nor is every family complete. You have wives without husbands, children without any parents, and so on, however God has set the family up with this order, husband, wife, and children. Every family should be in that order unless there are missing pieces. A wife is not to serve as the head of the house but should be submissive to the husband. “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:22) and the children are to honor their parents as such as God commanded. Any wife that fails to submit herself to her husband has failed the Lord’s command and any husband who fails to be the head of the house has likewise failed God. None of the family should disrespect their responsibility in the godly order of the family, husband/father, wife/mother, and children. And all in the family understanding their responsibility to God: “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.” (1 Corinthians 11:3) I understand that most families do not accept this family order, children running families, wives running families, and fathers failing miserably in their commandment of God. This does not change what God said nor does it please God to be disobedient. This does not de-value the wife/mother in the family, it is what God commanded and godly women should not take it personal. God never said women cannot run the family, many women today run their families and do it exceptionally well, but God elected the man to be head of the house. Last, let’s look at the father and their status. Some men make wonderful fathers and heads of house, and some have no idea what a father is. You must wonder why God gave some people children at all, but He did. Any father who does not love and care for his family is worse than an infidel. “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1 Timothy 5:8) an infidel is – one disbelieving, that is, without Christian faith, or one who is untrustworthy – and the Lord classified you as one WORST than an infidel. You are not a good Christian if you fail as a father and the responsibility that comes with it. That is taking care of you wife and children, even stepchildren. Remember as Christians we are all God’s children by adoption, and Joint heirs with His Son Jesus Christ. So, to all you fathers who have obeyed the Lord in your responsibility Happy Father’s Day and to you who have failed, correct it for next year.
