Profane and Vain Babblings.

“But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” 2 Timothy 2:16

The words “profane” and “vain babblings” means - heathenish, and empty sounding, that is, fruitless discussion – This would include most of what is taught from the pulpit in most assemblies today. The truth of the matter is that only in a Sovereign Grace Baptist Church can one hear truth from the scriptures. The reason is that once Gods sovereignty has been removed then there is nothing else to preach. All other preaching becomes “profane and vain babblings” in which God tells us to shun. The word “shun” means basically simply to stay away from it; and the reason God told us this is, it is worthless. Not everything taught in these places of worship is of God neither is it glorifying to God. God does not use it nor does it produce any good results. God said their words were empty sounding, that is, fruitless discussion, not fruitless in the world but fruitless to God. Many people have a zeal for God and actually dedicate their life to the lies and vain babblings but to no profit to God. “For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.” Romans 10:2 People look at the great worship centers and all the people that attend and think they must be of God but that in not so, size never measures Gods workings, truth does. God never said look for the preacher that has the largest congregations but rather the preacher that speaks the truth. Preachers are measured only by the TRUTH they teach. “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.” 1 Timothy 5:17 that would be the doctrine of the word which is the truth of God. There is not another measuring stick in which to measure them except by truth. God also told the churches that these men were so worthy that they were worthy of double honor that is two times what you think they are worth. He also gave the churches two commands concerning His pastors “For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. 1 Timothy 5:18 churches are not to muzzle their pastors that they cannot speak the truth or starve them to weakness or death. What do you as a church member want for your church; profane and vain babblings which you can find in any assembly that refuses to teach truth or truth? Do you want a pastor which babbles and builds great assemblies on lies or a pastor that preaches truth. Support your pastor; he is all you have and he is sent from God with His blessed truth. Pastors of truth are hard to find therefore we all need to support those that we have. I hate to say this and sound shoddy but if you have a pastor that teaches truth let him preach and keep him fed. Think sometime what would it be if God were to move your pastor and leave you without. We praise God for the truth of His blessed word but not just anyone can preach it and so many who try fail. Preaching is a calling and those who are not called will fail, either their ministry will fail or truth will fail and they will become preachers of profane and vain babblings.
