“Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.” John 12:35
The light is Jesus Christ in you, and if you do not
walk in the light then people cannot see Jesus in you. Some might ask, why must
people see our light shining? The answer is threefold, (1.) your light is a
gift from God, and it is not given to everyone, but God chose to give it to you.
(2.) The light is Jesus Christ in you, He was born, lived, died, and rose again
on the third day to give you this light. He suffered mightily for you that He
could secure your ability to walk with God. (3.) walking in the light is the
only possible way to walk in fellowship with God. “If we say that we have
fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if
we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with
another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:6 – 7 Christians that are not walking
in the light that Jesus gave, they are not in fellowship with God. And God
said, “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we
lie…” We lie to ourselves, we lie to those around us, but more horrible,
we lie to God. Let us look at John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them,
saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in
darkness, but shall have the light of life.” If a Christian is not walking
in the light of God’s word, then they are not walking in Jesus Christ and if
they are not walking in Jesus Christ then they are walking in darkness,
and if they are walking in darkness then they are not walking with God. A
Christian that walks in darkness or according to the course of this world
brings no glory to God. Jesus said of our light, “Ye are the light of the
world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” Matthew 5:14 There is
nothing more beautiful than driving down the highway and seeing a hill with a beautiful
light shining. Not just a light but a God given light, like a star or maybe the
moon shining bright and lighting up everything around it. Back when God created
the world God saw that all was void and dark, and then all at once God gave it
light, "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon
the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light,
that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness." Genesis
1:2 - 4 This light was the Shekinah Glory of God that lite-up the entire earth because
the sun, moon, and stars had not been yet created. The Shekinah Glory of God is
a visible manifestation of God on earth, He caused to dwell, referring to
the divine presence of God. This is the glory every believer has inside
of them, the eternal light of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “Let your light so
shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father
which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 Why do Christians hide their light and “put
it under a bushel” where it is hidden and useless to the glory of God?
Jesus Christ saved us from the darkness of this world, why would any believer
desire to go back into the darkness of Satan is beyond any imaginable thought. "No
man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under
a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light. The
light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole
body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full
of darkness. Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not
darkness." Luke 11:33 - 35
