Psalms 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the
counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the
seat of the scornful. (2.) But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in
his law doth he meditate day and night. (3.) And he shall be like a tree
planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
Oh, what a blessing it is to serve God. Some people look at
it as a chore, or a regret, but to those who serve the Lord, it is indeed a
true blessing. We look in this world and try to figure out what keeps us
healthy, what can we do to be happy, well we do not have to look far, it is
godliness. The scriptures say that if we “…walketh not in the counsel of
the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the
scornful… he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth
forth his fruit in his season…” So it seems to me that if we (as Christians)
are looking for happiness in this world, then we find it not in the world but
in godliness. If you find in your church a very godly person you will find a
well fed, and satisfied person. You will find a person not starving for things
but a well-nourished in every part of their life. Now, I did not say a person
without life issues, that is something we are going to suffer, death is also guaranteed
by God, but you will find a person that takes life as God gives it and is
satisfied with what God gives. Every time you read in the scriptures about this
you will find that this is true. God said, “This I say then, Walk in the
Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16 For a
Christian, life is not about this world, it is about the life to come.
Gathering fruit in this life that is of value in the life to come. Walking in
the counsel of godliness is a Christians most happiness because the godlier you
walk the closer you are with God. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the
light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his
Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 I believe this fellowship is with
God, as believers we also have a closer and better fellowship if we walk in the
Spirit together, but I believe this is our fellowship with our Father. This is
when we are agreeing with God and walking in the Spirit. God asked this
question, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” Amos 3:3 Well,
how can they? God also said “No servant can serve two masters: for either he
will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and
despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Luke 16:13 Beloved, if you
are walking with God, you will not be serving the world but rather God and the
reverse is also true. Therefore, we see if a Christian is walking with God they
are “… like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his
fruit in his season…” The river just keeps feeding them, and they look green
and produce godly fruit all year around because they are feeding from the river
of godliness. This is how Christians continue to be content, they are happy
with what God gives them. They know that God can and will supply every need
they have, they know the lows and highs in life are by the good measure of God’s
grace, and they know they that God has ordained their life and them living
worldly is not going to make it better. So, please let us remember what God
said through the Prophet Amos “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”
Or you’re not going to walk together, and in that walking together will
cause the Believer in Jesus Christ be their happiest. Folks, it is on God’s
terms not ours. Just like worship, it must be in spirit and truth or not at
all, you must walk in the Spirit or not at all. If you and God do not agree in
the walk then what good is the walk? This is how the godly believer is happy
and content, they believe and walk in Christ together with God the Father.
