“Doubtful Minded”

Luke 12:29 “And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.”

This week in out Wednesday Night studies, we came upon these two words. These two words are very great words when you consider everything contained in them. Most people refer them to food because that is what God is talking about. I believe it is speaking to our faith in general, how strong is it. Notice in verse 22 it says, “And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.” When the Lord says to “…Take no thought for your life…” He is referring to our life in general. We all talk about our faith and how God is going to take care of our every need, we talk about how God controls all things, we also say “God has this, don’t worry about it”. Great truths, but just how much faith do we truly have? Some say, “if I believed in predestination, I would walk in front of a bus”. Also, some will say “I do not need to do anything God is going to do it for me”. Well this is the real world, and I believe I am as sovereign grace as anyone else. However, reality is reality and let us all understand, we live by faith in this world. The bottom line is we do not know the will nor the workings of God unless He manifest it to us, and normally the fact is finished when He does that. I believe we ought not be doubtful in anything in life, we should trust the Lord in every aspect of our life. However, with that said we should not “under-doubt” either. Now what do I mean by “under-doubting”, we should not trust what we do not know, and what we do not know is what God’s will is. This is the best example I know, if you think you are the strongest of faith then try this, leave your doors unlocked at night, your windows down in your house and sleep sound without worry. Put a 100.00 bill on your car seat and leave your windows down at the mall with your keys in the car. I tend to believe none of us are that brave, but why not? God has promised to protect us, He has promised to supply our every need. The problem is that we do not know God’s will nor God’s plan for us, but we do believe “He has this” and the outcome will be His will, without doubt. Our doubtfulness in this life is stronger in us than we like to believe. It is not wrong to lock your doors and windows at home, and it is dumb to leave an 100.00 bill on your seat with the windows down at the mall. I believe we can all agree. God said if our faith was strong enough we could move mountains. “Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.” Matthew 21:21Beloved let us all face it, we are all weak in faith, but some more than others. In closing, I believe it is totally faithful for us as Pastors to concern ourselves with the security of the sheep God has set us over as overseers. We cannot just say “God’s got this” and we do not need to do anything. God gives us the tools, and we need to use them to protect the churches of the Lord. It is not a lack of faith, but it is the same reason you work everyday to buy food and pay the bills, it is not a lack of faith either. God is absolutely going to protect us, but we also need to work at protecting ourselves also. It is time we secure the church houses. God gave us tools to use to be safe and we need to use them. I have decided that I am, if some believe it is a lack of faith on my part, and our churches part then so be it. But we are not going to attend church wondering if today, some lunatic who hates God and churches is going to slaughter the sheep of God. We live in a different era, the hatred of some people is a reminder of what it was in the “dark ages” when about fifty-million Christians were slaughtered for their faith in the Lord, His churches, and His word. We may be coming to a repeat in history, and it is not a lack of faith to fight back. Only God knows the future, and He does indeed have it, and I pray that He fully secures us all. Let us love and pray for each other!
